TEMPE, Arizona -- Oklahoma State held a slim lead for most of the game, but Georgia’s hot shooting in overtime gave it the 74-71 win.
The Lady Bulldogs started the game with a 12-2 run by capitalizing on early misses by the Cowgirls. OSU responded with a 7-3 run to close the gap to four.
Tegan Cunningham didn’t get on the board for the first 10 minutes of the game, but when she finally did score she put up seven points of a 9-0 run to tie the game at 20.
Five minutes later, Oklahoma State took its first lead of the game with 3:47 left in the half after scoring five straight. The Cowgirls built a 30-25 lead in the closing minutes of the half, but UGA scored a quick five points late to tie the game.
Cunningham closed the half with two free throws to retake the lead going into the locker room.
Andrea Riley lead all scorers with 31 points. Jasmine James paced Georgia with 27.
Both teams battled back and forth for the second half until OSU hit a six minute scoring drought. UGA wasn’t much better, hitting only two free throws in the final eight minutes of the game.
Riley ended the Cowgirls’ scoring lapse with a jumper to tie the game at 55 with 1:23 left in the game.
Both teams had a shot to win in the final seconds of regulation, but Riley’s jumper from the top of the key came up short.
Cunningham, who finished the game as the Cowgirls second-leading scorer with 25 points, fouled out with 1:18 left on the clock.
Up three with five seconds left, Houts missed two free throws for Georgia giving OSU the chance, but Riley’s half-court shot came up short.
