MUSTANG, Oklahoma -- Many top-tier prospects can put up blazing 40-yard dash times, but that speed disappears when they step on the field.
David Glidden isn’t one of those guys.
“When he has pads on he’s just as fast as he is when he doesn’t have pads on,” said Mustang head coach Ty Prestidge. “It affects most kids, but he makes cuts and breaks out of cuts just like whether he has pads on or not.”
The Oklahoma State commit is known for his quickness and elusiveness on the field, and even his teammates get caught up looking for the next highlight-reel moment from Glidden.
“Any time David has the ball in his hands everybody stands up. You never know what you’re going to get,” said quarterback Brandon Taylor. “He could go sideline-to-sideline and take it to the house, or he’ll hurdle a guy and take it to the house.”
Going to the house is something he did quite frequently in 2009.
In his junior campaign, Glidden amassed 1,046 yards and 12 touchdowns and could top those numbers in his final season at Mustang, but personal accolades aren’t what he is seeking.
“[Being a leader] might be the most important thing,” said Glidden. “Leading the younger guys and helping the coaches get everybody going.”
With the offseason work that the Broncos have been putting in, their star player has high hopes for their 2010 campaign.
“Going deep is one thing that we always expect around here,” said Glidden. “We believe we have the talent with the hard work we’ve been putting in. With the work that’s been going on there’s nothing we can’t achieve.”
