DUNCAN, Oklahoma – The difference between good players and great players often comes down to work ethic.
In that sense, it might be safe to label Duncan defensive back Dominique Petties a great player.
Duncan coach Jim Holloway said Petties has improved at a rapid rate both on the football field and in the classroom.
“Academically he has really improved his standing ever since he came in here day one,” Holloway said. “Football skillwise, he probably lacked a lot of fundamentals but he’s a fast learner.”
That hard work has paid off for Petties, for he has received offers from Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Missouri, Tulsa and Arizona among others.
Meanwhile, the Duncan Demons are the favorites to take District 5A-2, returning 13 starters, including several other Division-I-bound players.
Petties plays all over the defensive side of the ball for Duncan, and could play a number of positions at the college level, including outside linebacker or safety.
While Petties said he has tossed around ideas on his future in football, the foremost thought on his mind at the moment is his senior season.
“OU is probably my favorite but I am still undecided at the moment,” he said. “I’m just kind of waiting to see.”
