UNIVERSITY PLACE, Washington -- Oklahoma State’s Peter Uihlein beat Patrick Cantlay 4 and 3 at the U.S. Amateur Saturday to advance to the championship match at Chambers Bay.
After winning the first hole of the day with a par, the OSU junior played consistently to hold his lead. He bogeyed just one hole, birdied two and pared 12 to maintain the advantage. He closed out the match by parring the par-3 15th hole.
Uihlein will face David Chung of Stanford at 7 a.m. Sunday in the 36-hole championship match.
The Cowboy junior is Oklahoma State’s first finalist since OSU’s back-to-back participants in 2002 and 2003. Hunter Mahan represented Oklahoma State in 2002 and Casey Wittenberg in 2003.
