ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico -- The Oklahoma City RedHawks’ late-season woes continued with a 10-4 loss to the Albuquerque Isotopes Saturday.
The Isotopes’ (67-66) offense came alive early, scoring eight of their 10 runs in the first three innings.
After the RedHawks (70-63) scored a run in the top of the first, Ivan De Jesus Jr. went yard in the second at-bat of the bottom of the first to tie the game. Two at-bats later, John Lindsey sent a ball over the left field wall to take a one-run lead.
Oklahoma City went three-up, three-down in the top of the second, but Albuquerque’s offense didn’t slow down.
Four at-bats into the bottom of the second, Justin Sellers doubled to center field to bring Scott Van Slyke home from third. An RBI-single in the next at-bat brought A.J. Ellis home, and a De Jesus Jr. two-run double in the next at bat pushed the lead to 6-1.
A Michael Restovich solo home run and Trent Oeltjen’s second RBI-single of the game extended the lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the third.
The RedHawks would break the drought and score three more, including solo home runs by Chris Davis and Hernan Iribarren, but didn’t threaten late.
Oklahoma City starter Michael Ballard (5-8) only lasted two innings for the RedHawks after allowing six earned runs on seven hits – including three home runs. Francisco Felix earned his first win of the season after allowing just three earned runs on five hits in six innings.
